Materials that would best absorb the impact of a fall

I could test which materials absorb the impact of the fall of an object. The independent variable for this would be the type of material and the dependent variable would how damaging the fall would be on the object.

For this experiment, I would wrap one layer of material around the same object, and drop the object from the same height each time. I would then note down the impact the fall had on the object i.e. how much damage the object has suffered, and compare how well the materials absorbed the impact of the fall.
